SpaceBlock Climbing is a climbing center located in Málaga. There, you can practice by paying a membership fee or book sessions with an experienced instructor to get started in the world of climbing.
Climbing initiation session
The activity, lasting two hours, aims to provide you with basic knowledge about indoor climbing, as well as the tools, techniques, and types of climbing. The necessary equipment (harness, climbing shoes, and chalk) is included in the price, which varies depending on the number of participants.
My experience
I booked a climbing initiation session, which involves attending for two hours to practice and learn a bit about the world of climbing.
You also have the option of an «initiation course»: four sessions of two hours each.
As I mentioned, I opted for the baptism session, which required prior booking via email. You can also contact them by phone or WhatsApp for reservations or to clear up any doubts.
All you need to do is make sure to wear comfortable clothing, bring water, and show up for your appointment. Payment is made on-site before the activity starts. In my case, I paid €50 and went solo, which was a great opportunity to have an instructor focused on me and helping with everything. My advice is to try to go on days/times with fewer people so you can make the most of the experience.
After explaining a bit about the world of climbing, we started with low-height climbs without a rope to get familiar with the grips and technique; the descent was practiced by jumping (not retreating). In this version, I felt very comfortable and confident in my abilities.
The next challenge involved using a harness and higher heights. However, you feel reassured by the quality of the equipment and the patience and guidance of the instructor. The descent part was more complex, as I couldn’t master the fall due to inexperience and, a little bit, vertigo. Luckily, the professionalism of the instructor encouraged me to try several times and enjoy the experience.
Remember to contact them for information, as prices may vary.
My experience was very positive, both because of the treatment I received and the patience and kindness of the instructor and the rest of the staff. I highly recommend the experience and I wouldn’t rule out going back, although, for now, I’m focused on other activities.
